Default UAE school system: compulsory ages, kg, years, etc

Hi all

I'm trying to get my head around the complicated enigma of the UAE education system. Specifically, I'm trying work out the age at which schooling is compulsory, due to a prospective employer covering school fees from this stage. I realise this has been asked before, but I think things may have been revised recently?

The employer states this as being from age 5. However, different pages on the internet have it as either age 5 or age 6. I'm also completely confused by what I think are multiple ways of denoting different stages e.g year 1 v KG2. I guess this may be down to different curricula being used by public / free schools v private / international schools, but I'm not sure?

Any insights gratefully received!
