Default New UAE/Oman border crossing regulations

Have just seen this in Times of Oman today:

Driving to Dubai? Some border checkpoints have been closed to expats - Times Of Oman

It would appear that only two border crossing posts outside of Al Ain are now available for expats who wish to travel between Oman and the UAE. Has anyone seen any coverage of this elsewhere?

Nope. News to me!

So no Hatta? No Kalba?

I also saw a post on FB today (with no reference) that bonfires are now banned in the desert..... and if caught its a 5K fine...! Anyone heard anything about this?

Yes. The "Desert Diva" is reporting this border crossing change today also, and has updated her border crossing guide.

Based on the Desert Diva's post, Hatta and Kalba both remain open to expats.

Don't think so.... heard about Al Qudra, but this read as if it was all the desert..... although not sure how they'd be planning on policing it.

I don't for one minute believe this FB rumour. Especially if they couldn't even provide a source or reference.

Well, if anyone does do the drive across the border into Oman and back could you please let me know how you got on and post here. It's only an hour or so from Dubai to Hatta but it's around three hours from where we are in MCT to Hatta and I really don't fancy having to do the much longer drive through Nizwa and Ibri if the Hatta border is still open.

See the site Visa Run with Go Tours and other Visa run bus companies - they will have the latest info. regarding borders as they go there twice a day. Not showing anything new at the moment.
