UAE Petrol Shortage?
Coals to Newcastle, Fridges to Eskimos and other similes come to mind! - Interesting to note that there has not been any 'Official Comment!' What is the betting that Petrol Prices will go through the roof, as a further 'Stealth Tax' is imposed?

Re: UAE Petrol Shortage?
basicially there are too many cars on the road with too few petrol stations, the latest problem is in sharjah dubai was before. the amount of traffic q's for buses etc has been very bad last few weeks. in abu dhabi they have taken away some of the pumps for the ngv and built a nice new gas station at kca, i thought when it was being built they are building one for diesel but nope!

Re: UAE Petrol Shortage?
The real issue is the enoc, emarat etc all have to sell petrol to consumers at below cost. These companies lose 100's of millions each year selling fuel at a discounted rate as the locals are now too used to low priced fuel.
In the old days it wasn't an issue as the govt would make up the shortfall for the companies and Abu dhabi (federal govt) would also chip in. Now however Dubai Sharjah etc have no money to pay with and Abu dhabi no longer helps out soi the companies are screwed and can't afford to buy fuel on the open markets.
Long story short expect a pretty hefty fuel hike soonish with the caveat being Abu dhabi bailing everyone out again and postponing it for another few years

Memories are becoming rather short; as the UAE made an overnight shift to Unleaded Petrol on 01 January 2003 - There were no Supply Problems then!

I concur....In the UK, the untaxed amount per litre (in Jan 11) was £0.4572 per litre (approx AED 2.8/litre)
Prices in UAE are about Dh 1.60 per litre

Lets look at prices in Qatar, Oman and Bahrain instead. The latter 2 hardly have much oil and yet can provide cheaper fuel at the pump, surely there must be a reason why ?

Re: UAE Petrol Shortage?
There is something deeper going on here. I have no idea what it is, but my feeling is someone isn't telling the truth.
Is it someone hasn't paid their bills, is it a shortage of petroleum product, I don't know.
Today they 2nd closest station to my office is shut. It has the look of having no petrol. There are no signs saying why it is closed, only cones to stop people approaching the pumps!
There is no sign of hordes of maintenance/ installation men descending upon the station hurredly changing pumps or anything!! The are just open to sell sandwiches and drinks!
They say it is all to do with upgrading station dispensing equipment. But has anyone actually seen this being done. Also why shut so many at once and not appear to be doing anything. Surely there should be a plan??!!!!!!!!
I can't get away from the fact that there is a shortage of fuel for whatever reason, but no one has the balls to openly confirm this??
Thankfully I have access to a private pump!
