Talking to a philippina shop assistant the other day, she's been asked several times "how much?" as she walked down the street... Another british friend was asked the same thing in a hotel bar...
This place is full of stereotypes. It's baseless and shallow and that's as far as it goes.

well... I got some unwanted attention in Dubai Marina while I was pushing my baby around and doing shopping in the middle of the day which left me ratheCURITYr shocked cos I was very modestly dressed and minding my own business. My husband asked his collegues at work as to whether that was normal, and the general consensus was "no" and that the chaps must have thought I was a nanny or something and that therefore they had a chance. I mean... wtf?!! Er... wtf on every level, in fact!

Sorry to hear about your awful experience - next time it happens, may be try having a word with mall security (if they're around) or else call Al Ameen. I had some crank calls on my mobile, so promptly went and reported it to the Bur Dubai police station. They got the guy and he spent a night cooling his heels in the lock-up....lol

Oh, that reminds me of another occasion when I was walking back the apartment and a chap tried to invite himself in for a coffee - I just said that my husband would not be happy about it and he scurried off!
Maybe it's the whole "walking" thing that does it... mad dogs and englishmen and all that.
