Smile Travel time from Jebel Ali Free Zone

I am moving to Dubai in a few weeks time and will be working in Jebel Ali Free Zone. I've read a lot about busy traffic, especially in rush hour. How far away (along the coast) can I live and not spend more than 30 minutes driving to work in the mornings?

Muley,

I would suggest no further than Umm Suqqeim 1, but it will be dependent on what time you leave for work in the morning. The drive home should be relatively ok, as the jams tend to start past MOE (Dubai bound) in the evening and you can bypass those by jumping onto Al Wasl or Beach Rd's...

When I used to come back from Ab Dab there'd always be heavy traffic from JAFZA to just before the Marina, as well as the crawl from MoE to Wafi... has that eased now?

Again depends on times leaving JAFZA. If you are sharp out, depending on which gate you use, it can be pretty clear to well past Marina.

I honestly read the title of this thread as "Time travel from Jebel Ali Free Zone" and I was so excited... then I realised that of course time travel is theoretically possible, but the chance of it first being achieved in Jebel Ali was, of course, slim...

oh well, back to the boring desk job, no Dodo spotting trips today then.....

Excellent. Thanks so much for the tips. I'll definitely look in those areas. From looking at prices, it seems that apartments are significantly cheaper than villa's. I do like to have an outdoor area and wonder if there are many apartments that have a decent size patio or do I have to try and afford a villa?
