Transportation Allowance Definition
Hope all is well.
I have question regarding 10% transportation allowance I am getting paid with my salary. My employment category is office based. So I use allowance to travel between apartment and office. Now my manager is asking me to do site visits, which mean I have to travel to different sites. I have asked for company transportation/pool car for this and they rejected this request. Please advise if anyone had a similar experience or knowledge in this area. |
Re: Transportation Allowance Definition
In my understanding, the Transport Allowance is as exactly how you have you used it - home to work and return. Either by Uber / Taxi / your own private car.
Site visits during working hours are 'business travel' , and as such need to be funded or provided by the company. Either you use your own car and claim the mileage, or they provide a pool car. |
Re: Transportation Allowance Definition
Transport allowance is just another way of keeping your basic and as such your gratuity low. Housing, accommodation or whatever allowance are just smoke and mirrors.
As for site visits it depends on what you were employed to do. If you were employed to be on site but have been working in the office they're right to reject you. If you are employed to be in the office but are now being asked to work on site your company should be paying you a mileage allowance (between 0.5 and 2 AED/km depending on the company - I get 1 AED/km). |
Re: Transportation Allowance Definition
There are no hard and fast rules in my experience. An ex-employer in the UAE required us to fund all travel out of our own pockets, including trips from the office to site. My current Qatar employer covers everything including between home and workplace. It's down to what you can negotiate and they can get away with.
