Tipping etiquette

For those of us who, opt to take a cab rather than drive in our fair city; a conundrum presents itself: how much do we tip the driver?
So how much should one tip?
For simplicity’s sake, let us assume you have to make a lengthy trip, a nice round Dhs100 and that you, as a generous member of society, usually tip 20 per cent.
So we begin with Dhs20, but deduct: Dhs1 for each ding of the ‘over 120 kph’ alert-o-meter; Dhs1 for slowing past the speed camera just to floor it once past; Dhs1 every lane change without signalling; Dhs15 for answering a non-hands free phone; Dhs1 for tailgating a car; Dhs10 for tailgating a car with less than 50 nanometers separation; Dhs5 for every instance of nose-mining while driving; Dhs2 (per minute) for waiting in line at the petrol station.
Dhs10 for racing another cab; Dhs10 for missing your exit on Sheikh Zayed Road because he’s fiddling with the radio or mirror; Dhs10 for every triple turn (except where road paint makes it ‘legal’), Dhs5 for every extra complete circuit of a neighbourhood because he can’t figure out that street 39C follows 39B; Dhs2 for each instance of surging the accelerator only to sleepily ease off requiring yet another surge in acceleration (aka: ‘sup-supping’), and Dhs5 for claiming not to have any change at journey’s end.
If you applied this method throughout the trip your cabbie might actually need to pay you for the privilege of hauling you around

Petrol bloke - 5AED. Top up on 1/4 tank. Ask for 95AED pay 100.
Car washers - 10-15AED on top of what the "company" charge + a water / coke if it's near somewhere I can get one
Bag packers - What ever coins / change I have on me
Hairdresser - 10AED. I only have buzz cut that takes 5 mins so it not exactly hard work
Wait staff - Really depends on table location, food, service and restaurant service charge policy 0 / !0% of bill
Room service - 5-10AED
Cab - Like most others round up to the nearest 10AED unless the driver is a complete twunt, or the journey unusually long or in the very rare case a pleasant driver with good knowledge of where we are going and who can drive well.... Subjective...

You think the drivers see any of the delivery charge? C'mon. I usually give AED5 to the pizza delivery guys, maybe 10 if its after midnight. Mind you, NKD Pizzas in the Marina are brilliant, the delivery is lightning quick (often about 10 mins), and I've usually had a few pints by then too. I'm usually giving a good tip, some of the workers are paid so little here as basic salary and they deserve so much more than minumum wage

I prefer this definition -
A situation or place preserved from surrounding unpleasantness; a refuge: an oasis of serenity amid chaos.
