Default Teacher moving to Sharjah next month!

Hey! I'm totally new to this site
Thought I'd ask if anyone has lived/ visited Sharjah before? I'm moving there next month and have a 2 year contract as a year 1 teacher. I've lived in Al Ain before, so was wondering how Sharjah compares? I know it's a lot closer to Dubai and the coast, but can anyone elaborate on what it's actually like?

Thanks

Charlotte

Traffic is shit.
Loads of Indians.
Corniche bit is a pleasant enough stroll in the cooler months.
No booze.

Wot he said.

If living in Dubai and commuting in and out of Sharjah is an option, do it (it’s what I do). Generally going against the traffic so from Downtown to the Corniche takes 20/25mins, and you can do it from JLT in 35/40mins.

If you’re going to stay in Sharjah, and have a choice about where to live, then Al Khan/Qasba or Mamzar are the nicest areas for apartments. A 1 bed will be circa 20k - 25k.

Expect to be stared at a lot when you go to the malls, or really any public area.

Only booze is at the Sharjah Wanders Rugby Club. It’s the only expat haunt. Not sure how busy it is these days other than through the sports teams, since lots of the western expats have moved from Sharjah to Dubai in the last few years.
