Default Student loan

Ok so I know I'm going to get blasted for this but I'm terrified and looking for advice.
It's been 13 years since I graduated and yes I moved from the uk out this way shortly after.
I made contact with the SLC way back and then heard nothing from them and yes, I did forget about it for some time.
It seems they have caught up with me, anyone else dealt with them in this instance and can I work out a repayment plan with them that I can afford. I have every intention of paying this thing back....
I'm ashamed of myself for this and I know I'll get backlash but I wanted to ask so I can get some sleep again until I can sort it out with them.
Thank you

Chill. I haven't cleared mine either. I used to pay them a chunk every year or so then they just stopped contacting me. Tried emailing but they haven't got back to me. Since then I forgot to chase.

Offer them a payment plan. They'll accept.

Agree, chill. No biggie, the SLC goes many years without contact and then suddenly picks it up as urgent. If your working out here and don't wish to disclose income to them, they have default amounts for foreign countries - e.g for Saudi its 240 GBP a month so stick that on a dd from your UK bank and they wont bother you again.

NZ arrests defaulters.

I would call up, tell them everything and then try to work out a payment plan.

Creditors want money and as jam25mack alluded they will probably be keen to make some kind of deal. OP in jail = no money for creditors.

As Angeshirls original Nz thread on this auto closed, I have re-opened it & merged one of the duplicate threads for her.
