The cricket scene in Dubai is very poor with no facilities at all at the moment. The one western expat club lost its facilities thanks to big Mo.

Cricket is mainly played by Indian/Pakistani's on spaer/waste land all over Dubai on Fridays.

not sure about American football

Where are you living Dave? I'm a cricket nut too. Perhaps when I get there we could start a team?

Cant believe there are not enough keen western expats in Dubai to make a decent side! Even if it does mean playing on the same side as a few Aussies

try contacting Darjeeling Cricket club. they still exist but have lost their clubhouse and pitch

I think it is the lack of cricket pitches as opposed to number of "keen expats" (English/Aussie etc) that is the problem!

How do you know if you don't know where?

Who is it being built for?

there will be new facilities at Sports City.
same as there will be Hockey facilities (there is currently no astro for hockey in Dubai)

the big question is whether local clubs will actually get to use them.

When the Country club closed down the Rugby Club and Cricket Club were offered new facilities on the Al Ain Road, not sure exactly where but up there somewhere and it is part of the new Emirates Sports Club that Emirates are building for their employees, in place of DCC but not for DCC members.
