Just wondering what the social scene is like in Dubai.
I am a 29-year-old British single bloke currently living in London and soon to be heading for the Dubai Media City to work in PR.
Having never been to Dubai [apart from a brief stop at the airport on the way to OZ] I don't have a clue what the social life is like over there.
I like a beer as much as the next man [perhaps not so appropriate for the UAE], but don't want to be a Billy no mates at the bar.
Is it easy to meet people? Are there clubs? Where do most people go out? And do they show the footie?
Also would like some advice on my prospective salary. They are offering AED 123,000, with no perks on top such as accomodation etc. First of all is that enough to survive on and have a reasonable existence. Or are they robbing me blind?
Questions, questions. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers from a little bit nervous soon to be expat.

I lived in UAE about 3 years ago and the social scene was getting pretty good then so I'd imagine that it will have grown (as does everything in Dubai!) since then. You will make friends no probs and then get invites to all the beach/desert/camping etc etc holidays! Great fun, I can't wait to move back!

Don't worry about a social life, there are so many clubs, bars etc that you will never get around them all. You will see more football here on telly than you will in the UK, matches from the English, Scotish, French, Italian & German leagues are all shown. Rugby though is the more active game if you want to play yourself. As to salary remember that accommodation is going to eat up a large chunk of that, two bedroom apartments in a reasonable part of town are AED 40,000 - 60,000 per annum.
