So many leaving Doha
Is it me or is everyone leaving?
I've been here 18 months now and in the past couple of months so many are leaving. I know it's the life we chose but is it normal that so many up sticks and run for the hills? Feeling a bit lost to be honest. |
Re: So many leaving Doha
Its normal here, a lot of people struggle to adapt or get sent home. 2 year contracts are the norm so when you start to get to that period of time the friends and faces change. From when I got here I think there is 1 person left who I knocked about with.

Feeling a bit lost to be honest. A few friends are moving back to The Emirates and a few are going back to Europe and the UK . There's an awful lot of work here in Doha but people only see this place as the cash convertor and when something better comes up they usually pull the rip cord. We all leave eventually which is good , i'd hate to think i had to see my days out on this barren Land Cruiser infested rock ;) |

Re: So many leaving Doha
Is this a problem unique to Doha expats or just one for expat life in general? Living in Denmark for 4 years now, as an American, my circle of friends has quite heavily evolved over time due to expats moving back / moving on. :)

The thing that surprised me though, now as a retired layabout, is that you still get a change round every few years with expat retirees  maybe we get used to moving around so much....who knows. |

Don't forget me, now knocking on the door of my 4th year in Doha, despite planning a year or two at the most, until things picked up in the UK

You could own 2 sunnys now with what you have spent on rentals.
However, back on topic, I have a vision ... a rampage around the C and D ringroads, broadsiding every Landcruiser and Patrol that cuts me up, causing carnage in the process, then heading to Doha Airport, tossing the Sunny's keys in the litter bin and heading off to the sunset. However, back to reality in 21st Century Doha, I'd have no exit permit, be found at fault for each and every incident, and have to rake through said litter bin for my Sunnys' keys. Only 6 weeks to Ramadan  |
