Hi Ladies/Gents I may be relocated to Oman and would like to know how the life is there...in Muscat and in Salalah. I have lived for a dozen years in the Gulf mostly in UAE Ras al Khaimah and Dubai and also for a a year in Doha Qatar. I am married but no children...

Hi G, life in Muscat is a much slower pace than Dubai and a very nice city to boot. Salalah, I hear, is wonderful, haven't been yet but do intend to visit. I know many people who have lived in both Muscat and Dubai and, without fail, they all prefer Muscat.

Good luck whatever your choice!

12 years in the Gulf and you have never been to Oman?? You have missed out.

I love muscat and am going for a few days end of next week. It is smaller and quiter, but the locals are nicer.

Salalah is beautiful during the rainy season. Not a lot to do tho, not sure I would want to live there. It's a long way to the nearest Starbucks!!

Muscat is lovely, and the Omanis are great people.

I love it here in Muscat. Traffic is a nightmare but nowhere near as bad as Dubai!

Thumbs up Re: So can I have the GOOD and the BAD things about Muscat and Salalah?

I lived in Muscat for five years and loved it, the diving is great (if thats your thing) locals are great and hotels and bars are lively. Salalah is also nice but can be foggy and wet during the harref much quieter than Muscat. The camping and wadi bashing is fantastic and beach BBQ's common. Down side is as always traffic and getting things done today!
