Smokin' and drinkin'
Shisha and turkish coffee that is! I have been lucky to meet and make friends with several nationals. Very nice people, today we are at a shisha "bar", where the strongest drink you can get is an avocado swirl. I'm sitting here typing a few notes because after all this coffe drinking I'm afraid that my memory will be hazy tomorrow. As far as I can tell, I'm the only non-Arabic person here. The room is full of hazy smoke and there is a slight buzz of animated conversation. There are people I'm calling the firestarters constantly running around the room adding red-hot charcoal to everyone's shisha pipes from these large ladle looking things that they swing about madly narrowly hitting anyone that gets too close. Although the ages are mixed, the music is all rap (but played respectfully low). It's a mixed crowd with a few women sitting in two's and threes and even a few couples sitting together chatting. Everything seems like a contradiction from what you would expect and from everything I have been told. The staff is all Lebanese, Syrian and Egytian and they get along great together and with their customers. At first, some of the nationals I met seemed cool to me but I think that they are just distrustful of some people. Anyway, another interesting day in Dubai.

Sounds fairly typical....so where is this place? Dubai or are you in AD?
And when are you going back home? That's all...for now at least....lol

My fave shisha place is in Dubai Marine and Beach Resort...hardly ever any westerners there, mostly lebanese, syrians, jordanians and locals. Sit with the waves crashing against the shore, and you can have an alcoholic drink there so it's the best of all worlds.
