Telecom staff raided several premises in Bahrain and confiscated "illegal internet based telephone devices".

Anyone any idea what equipment they are referring to?

I know a lot of people use the likes of Skype.

The report I read indicated that he had several PCs set up and was running it as a business at 1 AED a minute to home for workers etc.

Yes it is illegal to VOIP - (just don't set it up as a business OK?);)

(however I notice Carrefour are offering a VOIP phone on special this week, with a big poster extolling its virtues....:D)

Don't know if its illegal here in Saudi, but my Skype works fine. I think you have to download it before getting out here though.
