Would that be DStv.... Its illegal in the UAE, and when it comes to continuing the yearly subscription you are not contacted when you come to the end .... you have to do it yourself -

It'd be interesting to know what they're selling... it's not physically possible to pick up Sky TV with a dish in the UAE, we're too far east and south. You can get it as far from the UK as parts of Turkey, but you need a dish at least 4 metres across if you want to get the BBC and ITV channels.

Indeed, i have read on forums that some users in parts of africa can get to Astra 2 satellites and Eurobird sats, but too far away to recieve :(

Im tempted to mail the guy to see how it is done.

This sky thing is something to do with having it it the uk and its fed through the computer all sounds a bit complicated just for some crap TV... There is more details on expatwoman.com if you do a search:confused:

Oh, in that case they're talking about the Slingbox. It's not a great solution; you need to have a Sky box and subscription (and broadband connection) in the UK, and you use the Slingbox to send the video via internet over to here, so you have to watch it using your computer. That means you're at the mercy of the crappy internet speeds here (and it might get blocked at any time too); expect lots of freezes and stutters while you're watching it... a bit like watching TV via DIC...

I don't know if the Slingbox can fully control a Sky+ box to record stuff to watch when you want; if it can't, you've also got the time difference to contend with, which would be a serious pain the arse for watching stuff in the evening.

TBH, given that you can download most of the worthwhile programmes the day after they're shown in the UK - for free (apart from your monthly internet costs, natch) - and usually in better quality than you'll get from the Slingbox, and with the adverts already cut out - I can't see the point...

Actually, if they're clever, they'll use non-standard ports and so it's very unlikely that Etisalat will block them. The biggest problem, though, will be the horribly slow "high-speed" internet we have here - it can take long enough for YouTube files to load, never mind trying to stream video in real time.
