Re: Skin cancer - maybe time for a check up!
Well being quite fair skinned but enjoying the sun, sea and s.. out here I thought this was a timely shared advice so a genuine thanks.
Hopefully the BE ladies will now follow the examples I have seen on the beach a few times here, full length lycra clothing topped by an abeya...for me, I'm off to buy a gents Pakistani suit and a sombrero...

Re: Skin cancer - maybe time for a check up!
There are 2 good non-invasive techniques for sBCC's which they do out here.
One is photo-dynamic therapy which is supposed to be very good and deals with them all in one go, but can be quite painful. The 2nd is to use a cream called Aldara - it's originally used for genetal warts (honestly). This is a much less painful treatment with excellent results but does cause scabbing, oozing etc and can be a bit unsightly. Al Tawam hospital has an excellent German doc called Dr Berger in the dermatology dept. who has good experience of this type of skin cancer and is very good.
Had some earlier this year and just about cleared them up. Came from living in the sun as a kid and not usin cream.
Word of warning - if you've had them, you're susceptable to them and other more serious forms of skin cancer for the rest of your life. Keep checking and use high factor sun creams - it makes me wince now when i see all the pale skin types roasting in the sun for hours.

I turned up without an appointment but was seen by a skin specialist within 5 minutes and went for surgery (local anaesthetic) by a cosmetic surgeon 10 minutes later (whole cost DHS 2,000 including histology). Not that it was urgent, but just that there were so few people at the clinic. Anyhow, I am so glad I went and now not having to worry anymore.

have lots of moles so I tend to avoid the sun. hence my pale complexion!

So I'm going to get myself checked out pretty soon, can you get this done on your medical care through work at all?
