Apart from the obvious items of furniture, AD customs opened and checked every single box of ours!

Bare in mind you may want to travel to other countries from here- I go to China and Paris for work and was buggered when I first went as I had come with flip flops and sunhats, so it is worth bringing some stuff you can layer up and some boots or something. I actually wear my boots throught autumn and winter here and have been known to do so in the summer.

My office is like a fridge as the air con is so cold, so I am regularly sat there in a jumper and Im still cold even when its 40 odd degrees outside!

Also pack the cealry marked DVD box as one of the last items in the container. That way if Customs do want to see them they are right by the door and Customs do not need to de-stuff the whole container to get at them. This a) saves time and b) stop anything further in from catching their attention.

Although they will probably come out cheapest, I would avoid using The Removal Group - we had an absolute nightmare with this bunch of jokers. Far better experiences with Simpsons and Pickfords. Good luck with it all....

They only opened one of oir boxes - one labelled "files." We were told not to pack any religious icons, including buddhas (freely available here though) and books about any religion other than islam. Sex toys are out too, unless you can disguise them as... well... toys. One word of advice, have it written into the contract that they will
deliver to any floor and include stairs. The initial contract stated ground floor only and I wouldn't have thought to change it hadn't my mate explained he had been charged extra for being above ground level - he told me they charged by the stair. . Now that could have been bollocks but as I'm on the 17th floor I wasn't going to take that risk.
It has made a massive difference to us as a family to have all our stuff around us. I don't regret bringing it all out for one minute (apart from the broken bed etc...)

Not sure I get what you mean perhaps a straight answer would help, by the way I have been doing removals all my life before you get abusive.

It was for the following:

a 20ft container to be taken to SE London.

2 blokes loaded it (we had boxed and packed everything).

shipping to Abu Dhabi.

The local agent (GAC) then unloaded it and took it to the flat. They would have unpacked it but we stopped them.

I had to arrange seperate insurance... done through a friend for 400quid which I managed to get back as something was 'damaged'.

All boxes got opened by customs in Abu Dhabi despite being numbered, a full inventory given of each box and no media in any of them.

It's purely of matter of luck. And a good crew. We used Crown from Japan to Dubai - it was A1 perfect. Therefore we used Crown from Dubai to Bahrain and it was C-!

Try Wilhilmsen for shipping cars (offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai). I cant recall who we used UK to Jeddah - think it was Allied Pickfords. Saudi customs can be VERY rough on your items.

You would be better off buying stuff when you go there rather than ship everything. Plus you have to check on the voltage , cycles per minutes etc.
