Sharjah
I've been offered a job in Sharjah with accommodation and benefits included. The salary seems really low though. Can anybody give me a ballpark monthly salary (AED) I should be looking at for a single person? Not just enough to live on but to put some away as well.
Any advice or comments about living there would be welcome. I lived in Saudi for years so an old ME hand.

Re: Sharjah
The first part of your question is unanswerable given a complete absence of employment parameters.
As for the second part....take a portable electrical gen set.

Re: Sharjah
If you've got nothing constructive to say, don't bother responding. Met enough of your type in my time as an expat to steer clear.

Also, it would be difficult to comment on a package when we A. don't know what it is and B. What type of job it is!!
so maybe you want to be a little less curt with your responses and you may get more help.

Tanya,
You should be earning eqvt of £62,470 pa - untaxed and accn would be £326 pm.
Good luck!

Re: Sharjah
What a silly and immature response to a sensible post. If you are a British expat seriously thinking of living in Sharjah, please think again. Working there may be okay but I suggest you look at Al Qusais or beyond for your residence unless you are a devout Muslim and willing to spend hours without electricity every night.

Re: Sharjah
Thanks, the other replies are a lot more informative.
Can put up with anything but pickled expats panting for their next drink and pork sausage who think sarcasm is clever I can do without.

Re: Sharjah
Not everything about Sharjah is BAD!!! Yes the traffic is horrendous at times and depending on where you live and where you work will play a big part.
Accommodation is also varied from high rise apartment to villas, are your company giving you an apartment or a housing allowance?
I lived in Sharjah 6 years ago and it was fine I stayed there 2 months ago and it was a nightmare to get to Shk Zayed for work, I ended up leaving at 5:45am to get to work for 7:30am and the return trip worse!!
Where will you be working in Sharjah?

Re: Sharjah
I've got a tentative job offer in Sharjah but without any details yet. So just wanted some feedback to see whether it's worth pursuing further.
I lived in Saudi for 8 years so figure anything has got to better than that except for the salary. But the reason you get paid more in Saudi is obvious.

Have they told you what the job is yet?
Hard for us to suggest a salary if you keep us guessing...
As for how much you "need". Well, I "need" 120,000 Dh / month. Sadly, I'm not paid that much and have to make do on less.

Re: Sharjah
wow, you are hard work.
So is it corporate administration and insolvency or paper shuffling?
Assuming the latter, if you are competing with Filipino’s then expect 3k-4k Dh/month. We pay our (British) PA's 18-25k/month (all in). The lebos get less.
