Shares in UAE companies
Has anyone bought any shares in companies from the UAE? Or are all companies private? I'm particular interested in the airlines. I recently read that they are intending to issue some shares.

Anyway, there are two (rigged) exchanges in the UAE in which you can buy shares in thinly traded, often illiquid, stocks.
Etihad is wholly owned by ADIC. Emirates, I guess, is owned by Dubai Holding. If you want to buy shares in them and lose some money then you would have to wait for the IPO.

There are easier ways to lose all your money - the nearest drain would save a lot of time.

Re: Shares in UAE companies
Never buy shares in any company you wouldn't be happy to keep for 10 years if the market shut down for a decade...that's what Warren Buffett says and he's made more money in shares than everyone in this forum will see combined in a lifetime

It also comes down to trust. Take the rose-tints off Bruce, this isn't a proper country that plays by the rules of fair play......

Re: Shares in UAE companies
I have another slightly related question, shall I start a new thread?
How do you guys trade stocks listed, for example, on the LSE?
What about taxes?
I'm interested in trading CFDs. What would be different?
Any thoughts or experiences you'd like to share.

Re: Shares in UAE companies
Hi bruce
I trade for my own accounts a variety of instruments - stocks (both UK and US) and currencies (just the majors)
The biggest concern i have with the local stock markets(i.e. Kuwait) is that there is obvious market manipulation, liquidity is a BIG issue, you cannot short any stock and the volatility/liquidity is not high enough = however I do occassional throw some cash here more for a long term investment (for me long term is 3 months)
Basic line is to throw 10% of your final investment in and have a play

Do you use an off-shore account?
Does anyone use IG Markets?

Re: Shares in UAE companies
No tax in Kuwait - although i pay tax in UK for currencies trading - key thing is to be in profit !
If you are looking for tax advantages then you should use spreadbetting companies.
IG Markets is ok - but i prefer 0andA. There is a branch in Dubai and I am trying to open an account with them currently.
