Default Setting up consultancy...

I have a couple of firms who would be willing to offer me some consultancy but not full time work unfortunately. If I wanted to set myself up as a consultancy can this be done? Do I still need a sponsor for visa and labour card etc

Cheers,
Daz

There are many companies that can help you set up your consultancy (professional company or sole proprietorship). I successfully set up with the Links Group (http://www.linksdubai.com/) and have had no problems. They sort out your visa and work permits. Also check out other websites that offer business setup in the UAE.

Beware of individuals offering sponsorship unless you can get good references.

One BE member Jammy Dodger also set up his own consultancy recently - but I do not see any of his posts of late.

I meant to ask earlier...you don't happen to have and examples of what it costs for this type of service?

Beware that the way many sponsers writes the agreements & manage sponsorship does not mean you have control of your company.

The UAE Sponsor will always have full control - no matter what any side letter says. Sideletters are illigal in the UAE and can give a non-local a one way ticket to jail for up to 2 years (according to the law) - and there is currently NO WAY to get around the sideletter problem.

So beware. If you are doing basic consultancy the best is to get a Freezone Co with 100% owneship despite the "rule" that you cannot do businees inside Dubai - or get a offshore company in another country (fx. www.orca.com) if you dont need the visa. Buy a flat to get the visa... that is a lot safer.
