After a bit of a hassle within the company with no-one being able to put in for a visa and still travel, decision has been made that the management will all apply for a second passport. Company will issue a letter stating that it is a requirement, etc, etc.

HOWEVER, I called the passport office and asked for the procedure for applying for a second passport from overseas and the poor wee laddie from Scotland didn't have a ****ing clue how we do it from overseas. He was confident that we needed to complete the form for a first time passport application, and suggested we attached the letter from the company along with a note that it as for a second passport rather than a replacement... didnt fill me full of confidence.

Has anyone applied for a second one from overseas?

This is, apparently, the way to do it. Make sure to specify "do not cancel my existing passport".

(And no, can't link to an official source for this - there doesn't seem to be one; I asked a mate who successfully followed above procedure last year)

Procedure below.

If you are applying from UAE, use the printed form which you print from the website. Complete as though it's your first passport however also include a letter from your company stating why you require a 2nd passport. To back up the application, you can enclose copies of visas in your original passport showing KSA, etc. This letter should be original and mention the details of your first passport.

Alternatively, you can do this in 4 hours on your next visit to the UK (for approximately the same cost as couriering it etc). Just use the 0300 number to make the appointment and take the same documents as above EXCEPT you need to use the original form from the post office and NOT the application form you print online.
