Saudi Work/Entry permit processing

Hi all.
I have question about work/entry permit into KSA.
I am UK passport holder based in Egypt and have job offer to go to KSA. Firm has offices in KSA. I am informed the processing can be done while i am in Egypt meaning no need to go to the UK. This comes as a surprise. Has anybody experience of the 3rd country involvement (Egypt)?
Practical responses appreciated.

AFAIK your iqamah has to be processed in a country who's passport you want your visa to be stamped in.

Thank you yes; meaning it would be UK not Egypt. It was this way a few years ago; maybe noting changed.
