I left Saudi Arabia on an exit-re entry visa, I resigned with immediate effect while in UAE. My company wants to recover recruitment costs but I am disputing it. They are threatening me with a problem/bad record. How far can they go?

Difficult to see how they can do anything if you're not in Saudi, could cause problems if you want to go back though. You're not the first.

they'll eventually blacklist you if you do not play by their rules i.e.return your iqama and pay any costs they dispute. You can pretty much kiss goodbye any chance of returning to KSA to work in the future. That's about the worst they can do as their juristiction should only extend to the borders of KSA.

That is unless your employer was BAe or some such well-connected conglomerate. In which case the worst they can do is send a drone to bomb your current location.

Ditto re above. They will forward your details to the relevant ministries and you won't get another work visa for KSA in the future with any employer. Might not be such a bad thing.
