Re: The Saudi Causeway
Go early in the morning. Avoid Saudi weekends, ie Thursday and Friday. Wednesday afternoon can be busy too, coming FROM KSA to Bahrain. Different factors influence the waiting time but you will learn !! In school holidays it can also be problematic.
Find a place that you like in Khobar where you can pass time with a coffee and a book/newspaper. Such places DO exist. International hotels have coffeeshops that do not claose for prayer. I used the Nimran but you might want to go more upmarket. If you want to go more downmarket the Hamad in King Abdullah Street - where parking is difficult. As you sit there you expect Sidney Greenstreet to come in and sit down. Ambience is Beirut circa 1938.

Re: The Saudi Causeway
There was a confusion on another thread I read about having to fill forms at every crossing and other conflicting info. That is the reason I asked.
