Saudi Arabia
Hi guys
Need some help! Just been offered a job in KSA. The salary I have been offered is £120K. Is that good enough for a family of four? I have two kids so will have to send them to a private school as well.

Thanks Scot
No other allowances. Actually forgot to ask as well. Salary will be £120-£140k. Would that be decent enough?

Thanks Mark
I will be moving with wife and two kids. Any idea how much will be spent on accommodation in a decent compound?

I have heard there is 6-18 month waiting list for good compounds.

Re: Saudi Arabia
300K is top end price for a large villa in the the more expensive compounds. There are cheaper places. All depends on where you want to live and if 'status' is the name of the game.
There has been a large reduction in expats on compounds, so would imagine most places will have vacancies now, shouldn't be too hard to find a place to live. A few years ago, waiting lists were quite common, but not so much now.
As for schools, really, there is only the British School that is the choice for Brits coming out here. Depends of age of children, for those in older year groups, fess can be around 70K SR for a in Year 10. As with most schools, they won't take students straight into Year 11.
Good luck.

Re: Saudi Arabia
120k is a pretty decent package.
Compounds are ridiculously priced and the floor space you get is quite small. The only plus on staying on a compound is the opportunity to mingle with other expats and maybe enjoy on site recreational facilities.
Most new expats I know of are renting huge luxury villas with pool and ample space for a fraction of a cost of a apartment in a compound. These range from SAR 90k to 150k.
If you need any advice let me know.

Re: Saudi Arabia
I asked my friend who was an Egyptian expat in Saudi Arabia and he told me that 500,000 SAR would not be enough for a lot of Saudis and they owe debts to govt. because they waste their money a lot in a reckless way as they don't have the consciousness of the outer world where they tend to save money and depends on austerity way of life even in the level of countries, so go there and discover the way of life and be smart and save more then go out from the kingdom of darkness as fast as you can.
Good luck.
