Saudi advice
Hi!
I'm bound for Saudi in January , and I'd be gratful for any advice that any gnarled and bronzed expats can give me about living in the kingdom.
Is it really all sun, sea and, um, more sand?
I'll be in Jeddah (better than Riyadh I understand).
Again ANY advice would be gratfully received.
Cheers,
Griff

Re: Saudi advice
Hi Griff
I lived in Saudi for a while, it was in Khobar/Dhahran though, so not sure how much help I can be. I assume though that the set up is pretty much the same as anywhere else in Saudi. The main choice being which compound to live on - as this is probably one of the easiest ways to meet people.
On the whole there was a very strong expat community, and I certainly enjoyed my time out there.

Re: Saudi advice
Hi,
I have lived in Jeddah, Riyadh and Khobar.
Have been in Khobar for the last 3 years.
My 2p worth ...
If you are on your own, have made it out here before and you will be earning enough to retire in the next 3 - 5 years , then I reckon the reward / risk ratio is in your favour and good luck to you.
If you have not been out here before , if you have no concept of working in a muslim state as conservative as Saudi Arabia and if you are not a "seasoned" type ...IE ex forces, hard knock school of life, multicultural upbringing ... then I would say you are a nieve twit for wantiung to come out here at this time and you deserve all the pain this place will give you.
Its an "in your face" reply - but thats what this place is like just now.
I sent my wife and kids overseas this year, I plan to be out of here by October myself.
