Took a jolly to Cityscape yesterday!
Fascinating the number of developments planned for Dubai, and I'm just curious as to where all these developers think prospective purchasers are coming from?
Then again, working in construction on one of the developments on display in Cityscape, which looks incredible, but knowing the problems we are experiencing makes for interesting reading.
Dhs350 billion to demolish Satwa to make way for Jumeirah Gardens! Totally insane, but this is Dubai!

I hear that the Hard Rock has been given a reprieve, 9 years apparently!!! I can't see that happening, the unveiling of the new tower that is being built in it's location took place at Cityscape earlier this week. And apparently Park N Shop have been given extra time. Do people think that is because the government are nice folks who are helping the residents of Dubai or because they are actually having problems raising the funding to build these new developments? how much stuff has been launched in the past few years and never been built? just take a look at Emirates Road heading towards RAK. We all know that one of them went bust due to lack of funding and there is a now legal wrangling going on for the investors who are trying to recoup their funds. I am with Indie, I predict trouble ahead, of a financial nature that is. :(

There is a Facebook group for Hard Rock - says they got a 9 year extension, but are still trying for liquor license. The place is not the same for me without a cold pint of Fosters to wash down the food.

BBC website is now reporting on the Middle East stock markets being battered, I think people here are starting to realise they are not immune (the phrase 'Global Credit Crisis' should give a bit of a clue).

yeah, I had a look through some of the brochures (probaby not yours, Spugsy) and it was all "pretty picture, filler images, guffage, more filler images"... heck, I used to produce things like that when I had nothing much to say!

Generic, generic, generic.

Ego Architecture ftw!
/yawn

As for who'll buy, well, the same fat cats with lots of money will... the real question is who will live there.

Hardrock will be gone within the year I am sure of it. The guy who owns the land owned the Palm Hotel as well, he sold out to Sheik Mo.

hehe... tricks of the trade! Gotta love it!

I have to admit, I can't remember which one it was, as I was waiting to pummel my estate agent into submission at the time. That didn't quite work out, so I'm sure there's a lesson to be learnt there!

I take it I can't name-and-shame on here. Just had a phone call about the agent and well, may they rot in hell. I'm just going to empty our bank account and buy a big tub of Vaseline... but at least I'll have my apartment.
