Same old question
Ok so every one is asking this but here goes again.
I am 23 and my partner is moving out to Dubai. I am going to go as well but apparently a man and woman can not live in the same house if they are unrelated and not married. So i would not only have to find a Job but one with accomidation. Not being a smartly i would be looking for a easy job. Also have done the whole Trolly dolly thing and dont wanna do it again (also am not quallifed to be a nurse) . I am sure that all of you that actually live in Dubai are really sick of answering these types of question but if any one could tell me the best way forward that would be grand. You don't have much choice I'm afraid. Although Dubai is very modern, it is a Muslim country and Western values are foreign to their culture.
The obvious way to get in is to get married. If this is not an option, then you might be able to train as a beauty therapist in the UK then go to Dubai to work eg. in an hotel or salon and get an agency to sponsor you. The 'easy jobs' tend to go to Filipinas who will work for less money than a Westerner, and even those are mostly domestic maids. There are some British shops out there eg. M&S. Maybe your partner can make enquiries there if they recruit British expats. If the worst comes to the worst I guess you could get a job with Emirates airline as they do have a lot of British women working for them (the Arabic women don't really do this sort of work). Some ideas: http://www.expatmums.com (see work section. This website is run by British expat 'trailing spouses' in Dubai). You can post on the messageboard and you might get some tips from expats already there. http://www.timeoutdubai.com (although I doubt if any bars will bring in someone especially from the UK to work as barstaff - you would probably need to be a manager or owner). Hi all,
I'm due to be in Dubai at the beginning of January on an open ended contract. :) :) :) :D :) :) :) I'm a little confused about the comments about unmarried partners living together. I have heard many cases where unmarried couples have lived together in Dubai, had kids and it's never been an issue. Also mixed sex flat sharing. Maybe because both adults have been separately sponsored. Would anyone care to shed any further light on the matter? Ta, J |

posted before and struggled to get any help but i guess not that many people know electricians.
i guess the chances of me getting other employment are slim then?? seems to be that indians and fillipinos seem to be the preferred option in the skilled trade department p.s lay off the trolly-dollys ( because my girlfriends one in Dubai:p)!!!! |

I think sparks in the Uk earn a pretty good whack, right up there with plumbers ;) . I think the Indians and philipinos are likely to accept slighty lower wages than a electrician from the uk would. Saying that, they wouldn't demand to have a Nova, with a big exhaust and a wicked sub woofer like a lot of the young electricians in the UK seem to have.:) J |

at the moment i couldn't even afford a lada samara! nah, sparks can earn decent money but its about time we had a wage rise and besides, the only place that there seems to be plenty of employment in the sparks side of things is in the south-east. its picking up slightly in the north (Glasgow). what do you work as yourself???? |
