Mirbat and Aydim.
Aydim is the site of a huge battle in the Dhofar war in the 60s when Russia orchestrated an attack on the oilfields - strategically to take out the Emirates and Saudit oil and this was at the same time as the Cuban Missile crisis by no coincidence. 1000 Iranian National Guards were killed.
Even if you did not know that it is worth the trip up the hill.
Aydim is also famous because it is on the airline map as Adam if you are flying over it.
