Default Saffron

This is def not a question I expect MM to reply on

Have been asked to take some saffron home to UK due to it being very expensive there.

Where is the best place to buy it here and roughly how much should it cost?

I was told the Spanish variety is supposed to be best. I picked it up from Carrefour.

Urre! At the risk of sounding like the fellow from Goodness, Gracious Me - the best saffron in the world comes from India!! Kashmir, to be precise. But unless things have changed, the govmt prohibits export of Grade 1 saffron, so your next best bet is Iranian saffron (from Khorasan). Spanish La Mancha saffron is a high-grade saffron, but is lighter in flavor than the asian variety, but actually more expensive than the Iranian variety. Go figure.

I would try LuLu supermarket in Karama..
