Royal Air Mail

Hi all

Has anyone ever used royal airmail posting from the UK to Dubai? How was the experience, i.e, how long did it take for the receiver to get it?

I ask as im starting to worry about my legalised degree certificate i sent to the free zone close to the airport in dubai and it has still not arrived. I sent this on friday 30th May 2008 recorded delivery. If it gets lost in the post i got another long boring trip down to london! Fingers crossed.

This issue was discussed a few weeks ago in this thread

Despite Royal Mail doing their part of the postage deal, the postage system in the UAE is somewhat redundant. If it is important, send it by DHL or Fedex.

It's hugely variable but in my experience things do get here... eventually. Quickest I've had is 6 days, slowest was 18!

i had 2 seperate letters sent from the UK a couple of weeks ago by Royal air Mail to Abu Dhabi and they still haven't arrived at my hotel. Does anyone know if there is a central post office in Abu Dhabi that I could visit to see if my letters are waiting for me there? I guess they have to clear customs first but 2 weeks!? Any advice would be good as they are important documents....guess i should have used FedEx

Yes, i've had no problems. Sent one envelope which took about about a week. Cost me £5.

I've got a personal vendetta against Fedex now so i won't be recommending them.

Sending documents from here is crazy expensive. I sent two envelopes last week and they're trying to charge me 240 dhs. Apparently its a minimum charge.

Your company may have a better rate and you could investigate them sending it and recovering the cost. It is a win-win - I do this from Kuwait where the charge for a packet is five pounds anywhere because of the special deal.

I sent my legalised degree certificate today using 'International Signed For'. I am slightly worried as well, especially as I have a flight booked to start work on October 1st!

Take the original, you can probably get it legalised at the Embassy in Dubai.

Oh no this has got me worried !!

Today i sent my original education certificate (MBA) and the attestion by the FCO via Post Office (cost £5 to send it via registered mail) to Kuwait. The company wants to sort out my visa quickly. I asked the lady how long it will take and she said 6-14days.

Bijilo123 is the mail from Kuwait to London that bad (via the Post Office) ?

Which service did you use chap? I was told today that using 'International Signed For' to Dubai should be 5 working days?

Then again the man at the post office told me the document was insured for up to £500, and then I checked on t'internet and found out it wasn't.

Hi Thinkingaboutit

Yes it was the 'International Signed For', and the lady at the counter did say between 6-14 days. I asked if i could get it done any quicker and she said it would cost £50 (I asked her to repeat it as I wasnt sure I heard it right!).

The disclaimer at the bottom of your receipt limits the liability to 100 times the basic cost of a first class stamp
