Riyadh job offer- Please help
Hello, I am in process of finalising a job offer by a government owned investment fund based in Riyadh. Recruitment agent is suggesting that it’s only possible to push the offer to 50 Sar per month which includes housing. However annual flight, medical insurance will be seperate. I am single, in early 30’s, career on upward trajectory, my current salary in UK is £96k gross and have another job offer in UK for £110k per annum. Please share your thoughts if this is a good offer? Many thanks |

Re: Riyadh job offer- Please help
There is always the question "What happens after Saudi ?" In many job fields, working in Saudi leads nowhere. The end of your career !

Re: Riyadh job offer- Please help
Remember to factor in all the extra stuff your UK job comes with...
Employer's pension contributions Performance bonus Car allowance Life assurance Paid sick leave Private healthcare and the NHS Redundancy notice and payment State Pension entitlement Job security/ career progression Employment rights Fixed exchange rate UK banking access Working for a local employer in the Middle East can be a tough assignment for a Western Expat, and as above, have an exit strategy. I wouldn't go in your circumstances. |
Re: Riyadh job offer- Please help
I went there from The Last Chance Saloon and was resigned to ending my working career in Saudi. So it came to pass !

Re: Riyadh job offer- Please help
Personally I would stick with UK employment. In my career I have been lucky to have a portable job (oil related)where my employment location has not been an issue. In fact it has helped as all the openings I gave been lucky enough to enjoy have been in the Gulf region. Could I have moved back to the UK, possibly, but it would have meant starting right at the bottom and working my way up again.
With your current and other job offer salary, the UK seems to offer decent compensation while you build on your work experience in a tightly regulated working environment. Just my 2 cents... |

Re: Riyadh job offer- Please help
110 in UK is definitely preferable than 50k SAR pm in KSA. You need to consider the career and resume hit you take moving to the region. On a standalone basis, you are already around 550k pa package and please do not make the tax advantage as a primary criteria for decision.

Re: Riyadh job offer- Please help
I had 4 different employers in KSa and did 17 years there spread over the period 1970-2011. Only go there if you are desperate or are a fugitive from Justice. I had some good times there. Last job (at KFUPM) was the best. But then I noticed that I was old and it was time to go. I ended up in my native Scotia
