Returning on a Tourist Visa

Hi All,

I am going home tomorrow and will need to buy a flight back. I have a job but the visa process has not been completed (I only have my contract), so i will be returning on a Tourist Visa. I wanted to fly with Emirates in January with a return ticket in July (London - Dubai returning Dubai - London).

When I flew with Virgin I planned the same thing but they wouldn't let me fly because as I was on a tourist I had to return in 90 days, therefore at the airport I had to change the flight and pay £100 on top. I've heard this would not be the case with Emirates.

Hope this makes sense. (And yes I have call Emirates but they do not understand me).

Thank you, for any help.

Never had Emirates look at my visa, only the picture page in the passport.

As you get a visa on arrival then there is no problem, I go into Dubai 2 or 3 times a month and just get yet another stamp in my UK passport. Not given a second glance. I always fly Emirates and they only ever look at the picture and number of pp to make sure it matches their manifest/ticket.

Are you sure Virgin didn't misunderstand? I get the impression they thought you were talking about staying in the UAE for 90 days on a tourist visa.

With Virgin I booked the ticket to return back in six months Nov - june, they said unless I had a resident visa I couldn't go for that amount of time. They would only allow 90 days, therefore if I wanted to board I had to buy £100 to change it.

I didnt really think it was ok to say that in between i would be travelling back and forth to Oman until my work visa was sorted. So I paid it. And will complain once im home.

I've heard Emirates are not like that.

Slightly different but before I moved here I was consulting out here, so coming in every 6 weeks for 3-5 dyas at a time. Every single time I travelled in I was asked to show my accomodation booking and travel itinerary at passport control. As a woman travelling alone I think they are slightly more attentive to your agenda- unless I just look dodgy which is a possibility, I also get pulled over by security for the extra bag checks pretty much every time i enter the country much to my annoyance (just showing how dodgy I must look). The fact you are planning on staying longer than your visa allows may be an issue, what does your PRO say? perhaps speak with the airline and get their advice.
