That's good news for many older expats, but it doesn't say when this comes into effect.

He said the Ministry would start accepting requests from January 1 to issue the over-60 permits.

My HR boys think it's immediate too.

[sorry - wrong post - I was replying to LH]

I know loads of people over 60 who are still working here, they can only get an annual visa though.

Pity they didn't do this last year - my previous employer wouldn't give me an NOC and I had a choice of pay a bribe...I mean fine, or do visa runs for six months.

The articles mention more laws on the way to foster a more transparent relationship between employer and employee - let's see what that means and if it's good news like this news is.

About the best thing they can do here is limit the local sponsorship - that will encourage Emiratis to work and stop the few that abuse foreigners.

Emiratis - work Well, I suppose they might turn up!! Bit unfair perhaps, I suppose there are a lot that do, awful lot that I came across in three years that don't though.

I don't suppose anyone has seen the actual legislation for these changes or knows what the regulation/decree numbers are?

There is nothing on the MoL website and I can't get through their offices by phone (have been trying three different ones for an hour).

Thanks

Just in case anyone is interested. The raising of the expat retirement age is not a change in legislation but a 'procedural change' according to the Ministry of Labour.

They have not issued a formal decree nor have they updated their website although apparently that will happen eventually.
