Default Residence Permit for Qatar

Please don't read anything into this, I am just curious.
Does Qatar have a similar Residence Permit (Iqama) system to KSA?
And for that matter do Bahrain and Doo-bye?
One where they take your passport away for fear of your fleeing?

I was just wondering as it is such a bureacratic mish-mash.

Thanks, Peter

Qatar is a bit similar, since you also need an exit visa.
Bahrain is less restrictive or complicated.
But who is taken away your passport anyhow?????
I wouldn't accept that anywhere in the world
