However....We're really bad on the initial hotel stuff, I think it's shitty to make the person pay out of their first pay cheque. Such is.

I recently turned down an expat package as my company wanted to convert me from local to expat hire (how messed up is that). Terrible idea, I’d then have to take a larger house and less pay. No thanks, if I wanted to do that I would have rented a larger house.

Benefit policies can be cut or changed on a whim. Salary is much harder to change, unless it’s going to zero and you’re doing an inspection of the front door.

Funny - I thought the featherbed package was dead... but I've been approached recently for a couple of things in AD (one looks borning, the interesting is not likely to be a fit) but they are featherbed. I've never had one, and I've never wanted it... the last thing I want is some massive free house and be subject to arbitrary changes in benefits allowances. So much better to have cash and live your own life.

That said, when I moved here I was given 25k and a month in a hotel to get set up.

I would far prefer the cash in pocket.. My employer has 2 options... 1 is that they will allow me to rent a property up to a certain value, they will rent it in the company name, pay all associated costs and all utilities are in the company name. 2nd option is that I receive a cash sum substantially lower than the allowance in option 1, and I then have to pay all costs..

If I were to have used Option 2 to rent my villa IM currently in, I would be out of pocket +/- 75K AED per annum.

Therefore, for me, its a no brainer to let the company do everything..
