Thorny issue. I doubt he would be asked his religion. I'd think he should carefully craft his answer ahead of time though. I've tried to imagine this scenario before hypothetically and it's a tough one.

If it were me I'd avoid working/living in the gulf as a Jewish person. Minefield is the word that comes to mind. Maybe it would never be an issue and I'm not giving people enough credit. There's enough moments when it can be slightly uncomfortable being American here.

Worth noting I work primarily with Emiratis so my experience may not be particularly relevant. I'll be watching this thread with great interest. Best of luck.

I have a friend called Goldstein, Jewish, nose and all!
He drifts in and out of the ME, including Saudi, all the time without a problem.

Never mentions his religion.......ever.......

My advice to your mate is keep it to yourself.

I actually helped a friend of mine to get an internship in Dubai, but his work visa got rejected due to his Jewish name.. Although of course that is not the official reason

Because I have two nationalities?

And before I had two passports of one nationality, which allowed me to travel to both Israel and Iran.

Netherlands (Dutch) and New-Zealand, although I consider the Netherlands to be my home, as I grew up there and only was in NZ for the first 3 years of my life.

Decided to keep both, as it has no negative consequences for me and it makes it easier if I ever want to move down under.
