Or (noisy) sex during daylight hours, that too is prohibited. (It's not the noisy sex that's prohibited, its that Muslims aren't allowed sex at all during the fasting hours, so having sex in such circumstances that others are aware of it isn't allowed. Actually, its probably not allowed anyway. And certainly not in public. So if you're going to... I'm beginning to think I shouldn't have started this comment.)

I completely agree though, if your fasting why would you go to a restaurant or food court, so why close them for everyone else. As I think I've said on other threads, in my opinion one of the points of Ramadan fasting is the self discipline...

Or loud music, and all of these apply to being in the car. I've been told off for having the car stereo up too loud...I was somewhat bemused...but at least I wasn't singing alone when the tap on the window came.

Children are exempt from fasting so it's ok for your (young) children to eat/drink in public. So it's fine toting around bottles of water for the kids.
My apartment's pool was filled with people eating, drinking and smoking during Ramadan daylight hours. Your hotel apartment will probably have little to no restrictions on food/drinks by the pool.

So was it 3 years ago it was open as normal but curtained off, two years ago completely closed and last year takeaway only?

Our hotel apt pool screens off the bar area and serves food as normal during the day (but no alcohol). And no smoking or drinking soft drinks by the pool itself
