Default Radio in Saudi Arabia

I am sadly getting treansferred to KSA soon (Riyadh)

I wanted to know if a AM/FM/shortwave radio is possible to bring along or would they confiscate it / give me lashes etc...It is just a small normal world receiver type chinese radio (TECSUN PL 660)

Also, are there any english FM radio stations broadcasting in Riyadh?

You can tune into BBC Radio online - get some laptop speakers.

What about TV? get an IPTV box and sign up. About£20 a month and you get all UK channels plus Sky Movies and Sky Sports (plus loads of other channels, movie channels and sports channels).

No idea if they're still around, it's been around a year since I've listened ( current car is an American Import, so the radio can't pick up the local stations. ) but there's a couple of FM English radio stations, one called Mix FM, somewhere around 96 / 97.0 - cant remember exactly. It's not exclusively ENglish, but large parts of the broadcasts are.

Another one around the same frequency but tends to be more Arabic / Islamic.

If you manage to get to Dhahran / Eastern region, you'll be able to pick up American Forces Radio. Ok in small doses.

Otherwise, as Victor said, you can pick up pretty much anything with online radio.

In Riyadh there is one English radio station at 95.5 and 97.0 on the FM band, playing limited western music with English speaking presenters. There is also a channel at 92.0 called Madaar FM playing keyboard versions of classical music and popular English songs with the lyrics removed (including, highly amusingly, certain "festive" tunes all year around)... :-) You can also stream many western radio stations over the internet using a smart phone with data connection in-car or over the internet at home.
