Default Qualifications to teach English in Saudi?

Does anyone know what qualifications a person needs to teach English in Saudi?

Do you need to know Arabic to teach it? Also what is the demand for it?

Thanks.

There are Teaching English As A Foreign Language courses available, presumably via the British Consulate. If you're a bored wife at home while hubby is at the office or oil rig all day, you may be able to do some private tutoring to equally bored Saudi wives and teenagers, but you need to be careful about the legal implications. Plenty of people do it...

Not sure about the qualifications but I did work with a Saudi National who informed us that in most girls schools, if they must have male teachers, then the classrooms must have a one way glass---the students can see the teacher but as the male T, NO FACE TO FACE WITH STUDENTS! Men, if you are a T eyeing Saudi, you might need to practice teaching facing the wall to see how that goes. Then put it in in your CV as a new skill-----

Depends on what level you are teaching. You can teach english as a foreign language so will need a TEFL qualification. This can be to adults who just want to improve their level of English.

If you teaching in a school and working towards GCSE level, then will need an appropriate teaching qualification - perhaps from the UK such as PGCE / teaching degree.

May also depend upon who you are working for. Some companies employ english language teachers to teach their staff mainly technical language, eg in the engineering /electronics trade, so may just want someone who is a technical expert and can explain the technical terms. Most of this type of teaching is done using pre-set text books and following a syllabus which can lead to the IELTS qualifications ( International English Language Testing Standard ) , so may not require a fully blown teaching qualification.
