Qatar Petroleum
If any ex or current employees of QP would like to share their experiences of working for this company I'd like to hear from them.
If you don't want to post your comments here then PM me and I'll give you my e-mail address. Cheers!

Re: Qatar Petroleum
I would say QP is the best national employer in Qatar, without doubt. What area are you in? and are you looking at Meesiaed, Dukhan or a Doha based position?

Re: Qatar Petroleum
Having recently spent two years with QP, I would have to disagree with you! The site office was in Doha, but I was travelling to Messiaed and Ras Laffan regularly. Are you still in Qatar, if so how is the housing and traffic situation now?

Re: Qatar Petroleum
I'm in Qatar now and drive from Doha to Ras Laffan and back every day. Traffic varies from reasonably OK to pretty bad, making my journey time anything between 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes.

Re: Qatar Petroleum
Yes I'm familiar with that journey. There was heavy fog on the highway at Lusail one morning, so I pulled of the road (well off the road!) and waited for the fog to lift. Cars were still bombing down the highway at 120kph plus, making no concessions for the fog at all. Several times while I was parked up I heard brakes screeching and the sound of cars hitting each other, and when the fog lifted and I continued down the road, I found absolute chaos ahead. A land cruiser had smacked into the back of a bus and a few other vehicles had cannoned into the wreckage, some people were injured (or worse). You need to be extra careful on that road...

They use GodNav, it seems.
We were talking about the driving habits in the Sand Pit, funnily enough. Tee Hee.

What knowledge I have of these companies, having gone through interview processes with two, worked at one and with friends at the other leads me to believe QP is slightly better organised, offers better accommodation or allowances, less work hours and pressure in general and certainly has better pay. Particularly for non-western expats (okay that doesn't help you). I'm not in the oil business though, so have no industry comparisons to make.
Traffic still gets worse by the month and Al Khor is getting busier, thats probably a good thing for anyone at Ras Laffan though. QP have new accommodation open for those without families here close to athletes village.
If you've been here two years, you know the drill
Maybe Novi will come along with an opnion from the field side of things rather than the office, iirc her husband works for QP.

But have you ever worked for any of the other national employers? Going on personal experience and the information of friends I still hold it's the best of them .. Employment out here comes with all sorts of risks and hassles, if you want the money its about reducing them imo.
