Default qatar - doha - free accomodation or take the money??

hello
im british, single male, considering a move to doha - have a choice from my potential employer - either:
1. salary 24,000 QR per month and free accommodation (1 or 2 bed flat, nothing fancy)
or
2. salary 36,000 QR per month and sort it out myself in which case i would be looking for a small studio/ 1bed flat clean and newish

guess it boils down to the question what would i get for about 6 or 7000 qr to enable me to pocket a worthwhile amount of extra cash?

and PS how much is the cheapest monthly car rental likely to set me back?

any help much appreciated!
BL

Studio room rent is start from QR6000, 1 bed room is start from QR8500, and it depends on area. I’m living a studio room alone at Westbay; include water & electricity bills, cable TV, land line (local call only), internet connection and daily room clearing. I pay QR7500 per month.

You can find cheaper one, but these are staff accommodation for labours.

Regarding rent-a-car, if you don’t mind small car, such as Nissan Micra, Volkswagen golf, you can hire around QR2000 per month. Honda Civic (conpact size) is around QR3000 per month, Nissan Altima / Toyota Camly (standard) is around QR4000, 4WD is around QR7500. Japanese car is so popular in Doha somehow.

That's good for the WB area. I'm in a 1-bed apartment in the old centre (imagine a scruffier Satwa) and it costs nearly 9k a month.

OP, I would take the option where they pay - as long as they put you in a decent place in a decent area.

Yes, I’m lucky to find there. And my next door is British girl

The company provide your accommodation is better option. But, you cannot choose where you want to live. If you are lucky, the company give you your accommodation in Westway or Al Dafna. If you are not lucky, the company send you Industrial area loool

Qatar Living is the only place I think you will find ads out of the country, although it's worth trying the Gulf-Times classifieds too. Keep in mind, the singles scene in Doha is quite different to Dubai. I dont know what you do or how long you're looking at staying but its very, very different.

Areas in Doha differ huuugely, and now the congestion is as bad as it is, I dont think you're going to want to be stuck out somewhere inconvenient given you have the choice not to be.

Do you know where your workplace is, have you been given any indication of where accomodation might be in relation? Do you know what that would come with? If facilities and utilities are included you're looking at a value of a couple of k QR a month.

12k for housing 1 is not terrible. I'd see how much detail you can get out of the company before you make a decision. Who are they? and how much do you trust them ... would you be in a company compound/tower or are they providing random rooms?

Ya need a lot more info to make the decision imo.

EDIT - Just saw the OPs actually 6 weeks back, hope it all worked out for you!
