Default Probably going to Saudi (Jubail)

Can anyone please give me the lowdown on Al Jubail? I am thinking of taking a job there. I will be on a camp but I think within travelling distance of the town. I know the guys go to Bahrain at weekends, so at least I can have a cold beer once a week! I understand it's very multi-cultural there; is there a little more tolerance because of this?

Do you know where you will be staying whilst there???

Who are you working for??

There are many words to describe Jubail, non very good!!! Probably the best thing to say is that with a heavy right foot you can be at the causeway in about 45 mins!

I spend 1-2 days a week in Jubail and it is OK for that but I really wouldnt want to spend any longer there!!

Sorry if this puts you off!!!

This is on the Kayan project so I'll be on a compound or at site most of the week - 10 hour days.

I'm in Angola at the moment, and I'm really enjoying it. We're going for a beer at the beach in a bit if I can get these others to put away their toys.
The rotation isn't long enough for me here tax-wise.

Sorry to tell you this, but Jubail is one of the most horribly polluted places on the planet...........

There are even (unconfirmed) stories of birth defects, and the like.

Otherwise it's fine........... think Middlesbrough but with better weather.

I was raised in Jubail. It is a quite place, with low population, and polluted air due to petrochemical industries. Weather is super hot and HUMID in summer, you can't live without air conditioning.

There is not much to do in the city, people tend to run to Dhahran and Khobar, or even Bahrain, every time they have a chance.

The best thing in Jubail is work. World class Employers. When your resume mentions that you have 2 years of working experience with this kind of employers, all doors will be open for you. Packages are expected to be very good for Europeans / Americans.

The Causeway to Bahrain gets mental on a Wednesday night coz their weekend is still Thursday and Friday I believe...or have they changed it in the last three years?

No you're right............ Saudi still works the Sat-Wed week, though there is always a rumour that it will change to Sun-Thur.

Best time to hit the causeway is middle of the Wed/Thur night - say 2.30am. The bars stay open late in Bahrain on Wed nights to cater for latecomers from the Magic Kingdom.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still undecided whether I can manage 10 weeks at a time without a beer as I think the workload will be too much to get to Bahrain!!

to do that you need a multi entry/exit visa, they aren't that easy to get a hold of.
