Default Prepay SIM

Quick question.

Going to take my mobile phone with me, but could do with a local mobile number.
Is it possible to walk into a shop and buy a prepaid SIM.
One that is auto activated when you first plug it into a phone.

Yes, you just need to show your passport for ID.

Great stuff.
Which company is the SIM card with, and what stores stock the SIM cards?

Mine is from Du - got it at a store in the Mall of the Emirates. They also have an Etisalat booth there - you can get them anywhere. I just went to both companies and got the cheapest deal I could find at the time.

UmJammerLeilani is an unknown quantity at this point

If I'm correct, it's better to go with Etisalat. I remember there were some problems connecting from Du mobile phone numbers to people using Etisalat? Or is this fixed now?

I'd say it's fixed because my husband has Etisalat and we have no problem calling each other.

Bring a photocopy of your passport, then you can buy an Eitsalat SIM card at the airport when you land (in Duty Free shop opposite baggage claim).

Nice one!

I heard having a local number is preferred.
