Pregnant in Abu Dhabi with no insurance
Hi All
We moved to Abu Dhabi a few months back and am currently 20 weeks pregnant. We are waiting for my husbands visa and medical insurance to come through, now I know we will never get covered for my pregnancy/birth but was wondering what other options could there be apart from going back to he UK to have the baby
I have a friend in Dubai who said that some hospitals offer maternity packages, would that be right?
Thanks Jen

Am guessing that it would cost over Dhs10,000 based on what we paid for ours 10 yrs ago (SAR5,000) but that was in the Magic Kingdom not here.

think corniche is like 13k or something... also some heath insurances there is no waiting period so you would need to claim it back if covered.

you can double costs if you need c-section, and triple if baby needs NICU, so make sure your credit card is fully prepped just in case....

Be prepared for the C-section pressure, Jenlaws. The wife of a colleague in AD had her first baby there last year; she's in her early twenties, and fit and healthy. She and her husband received unbelievable pressure from the nursing staff to have a C-section, for "aesthetic reasons". I won't say which hospital it was, but PM if you want a hint. Anecdotal evidence suggests the practice is widespread, and I guess some others on the bored may have first-hand experience.
Anyway, congratulations and good luck.

Here in Oman, most deliveries are "natural" (as nature intended with drugs, epidurals, forceps, episiotomies) as c-sections take up bed spaces, and the economics of conveyor belt natural births is better than a 5 day bed taker upper.

yep better turn around for natural deliveries..... and corniche is a very very busy place! when i was there quite a few years ago, you didnt get any epidurals 24/7 at least that has since changed and they are available.... also the "cattle market" downstairs is much much improved. much better systems now but they do charge more.... i paid just like 250dhs a night!
