Possiibility of working in Bahrain
Hi all
I have just joined this forum and would love some advice from expats that are living and working in Bahrain
I have an opportunity presenting itself to work in Bahrain in 2008. The person offering me the job has offered a base salary of 15,000 AUD per month plus accommodation, medical insurance etc. The salary is excellent ..
As I have investments in Australia that need to be covered while I am working off shore I am wondering how it all works if I transfer $ back into Australia. It looks like I loose out...? Is this correct?
I would love to hear from Australian who are in a similar position...
I seemed destined to work in the ME which would be great..
Accessing advice has been difficult
I hope you can help
Regards

Re: Possiibility of working in Bahrain
15 plus accom/med is pretty good. Accom is around BD1400 pm for average villa which is about $A4,200. Congrats. I'm told you need to be away for 2 years to have any chance of minimising tax- covering your investments= tax. I'm in similar position so if you get some expert opinion let me know too- ...
btw what industry are you in?!!!!

Hi
I am in education and training. The job I will be taking up will be associated with HR with a T&D focus...however thats still a little unclear. I expect to be visiting Jan for discussions.
Based on your response I suspect that you live in Bahrain. Its a beautiful city...the "jewel" of the ME ...
The comment re taxation is 100% correct. I have a doc which I can forward for information.....
Which area of buisness are you in?

Hi
I am in a similar situation to you. I am a single woman, I have been offered a job in Bahrain working in Training and Development.
I have so many questions I was hoping you could help me.
Is the money you earn in Bahrain free from tax in Australia?
What is the cost of living like in Bahrain?
Where is the best place to live?
Is it safe for single women?
Is it recommend to transfer your money back to australia or keep it bank accounts in Bahrain?
Are there many Australians in Bahrain?
Any thing else you think I should know about working and living in Bahrain?
Thanks

lo_co - if you transfer your money to an australian bank account, then the interest, income you earn on it will be taxed (think it would be at the maximum rate, since you will be a non resident).

Yes the money that you earn in BAH is tax fee in AUS.
Cost of living is okay, accom is rising steadily so if you can, get it included in your package that way you don't have to worry.
Yes, most definately is safe for single women, it's not like Saudi, it's very free for everyone.
Yes there are heaps of Aussie's in Bahrain. There is an Australian Association that you can get in touch with here. On another note, I have found here that it is not like Dubai in the sense that Nationalities (especially locals) don't mix. I am from Brisvegas and my friends come from everywhere including Bahrain..
