Default PIF offer - KSA visa fees

My OH has got an offer at PIF (Saudi Arabia). Currently at the stage of getting the visa application process kicked off.

We've been told that visa fees will be reimbursed later, this seemed unusual to us - shouldn't the company be covering fees?

Also we've been directed to an agent for getting documents arrested (degrees/background check etc) and medical arranged. Again for this the fees seem high and we've no clarity on whether they will be reimbursed, what happens if the offer falls through and we've already paid etc.

We're just a bit surprised that these fees aren't being handled by the employer in the first instance and are wondering whether this is usual practice.

Any advice/insight into this visa stage from anyone who has gone to work for PIF from the UK greatly appreciated.

Big red flag …… don’t pay anything. Seems very much like a scam to me.

Its standard procedure for PIF to ask employees to pay and reclaim visa costs

Any employer who asks for visa fees up front is a red flag for me. The employer should be processing the visa and paying for it. Otherwise proceed with very extreme caution.

Tons of visa scams in the region and considering how much the Saudi PIF warns against fraud it would be surprising if they operate like this.

To the OP just make sure your job offer is actually from who you think it is.

there should be a relocation reimbursement that covers all these costs. NEOM for example, pays 75000 SAR to cover all these costs but after you arrive in NEOM.
