Phone question
 

I've spent ages researching this on the internet, and just cannot find an answer...

I'll be moving to UAE soon and bringing my iphone with me. It's already unlocked. Can I get a SIM only plan? I read somewhere that du/etisalat will not sell you an iphone SIM card unless you bought your phone from them.

I'm not very tech minded so have no idea if that is rubbish or not, or if I could just stick a normal SIM card in the phone...

You could call them and ask. Then call them again and ask again. Repeat a further 5 times.

If you get 7 identical answers there's a 50:50 chance its true.

And the chances of at 7 remotely similar (let alone identical) answers are nil!

As I understand it, if you want a bog standard plan, you have no problem. If you want the iPhone plan, you probably have to buy the iPhone from them.

ETA: If you need a micro-SIM, you better cut it yourself.

or you could just get a normal sim with a data plan. unless you can't live without the 'visual' voicemail feature you won't miss not having a proper iphone plan...

i am sure the networks can provide micro-sims by the way. i know they do in saudi at least.

i have an iphone, didnt buy it from etishite. sim has basic call plan and data package no issues at all. etishite also now have micro sims available just ask at a business centre, will give you one with your number as well if you ask for it.

as always with etisalat never ever speak to a customer adviser on the phone, go through to technical and ask them instead. never ask the shops to do anything in the malls, they just wont do whatever they say or lie about. go to one of the main business centers like the one behind the dusit on SZR.
always take a passport copy and id with you.
