I'll be avoiding all Emarat stations in future.

Re: Petrol Stations
That's why we never used Emarat petrol stations when we lived in Dubai. As for the company saying that surrendered tips go towards staff welfare and entertainment ... do they think we're stupid?

Re: Petrol Stations
Shocking. I very rarely used Emarat but I definitely won't be using them again.
Well done to Gulf News' management for actually having the balls to run with this. We all know how easy it is for the government to revoke visas of editors that publish stories that they don't like.

Shocking! I always thought this was an urban myth, but had noticed some stations uniforms do not have pockets on the trousers (ie so they can't pocket the tips). I will also now boycott Emarat here on in (& sadly i have to fill up 3 times a week if not more). But, if ever i do find myself in the unfortunate situ of having to fill up at one of their shocking stations I will decline a tip
Really, I am shocked . But as Auz said well done GN for having the .....to publish......

But glad to see ADNOC, Epco & Enoc publicly stating this is not their policy.....

This could be the tip of the iceberg or the thin end of the wedge. What do waitresses, bar staff, beauty therapists and even masseuses have to endure from their nasty management I wonder. Presumably taxi drivers are trusted.

Something to think about the next time you get a full tank. Petrol is so cheap to the user here, but these guys do not get a fair deal.

Re: Petrol Stations
Of course, compared to petrol pumpers at other companies, the Emarat staff are much more highly paid to compensate them for not being allowed to keep tips...........

Re: Petrol Stations
So if you boycott the station, does that mean you will boycott most other places in DXB too? I say this since most of the houses, apartments, and malls for instance were built by exploited people also. Maybe in even more difficult situatiin such as no shade in the midday heat...

However, I would argue that boycotting Emarat and doing it loudly will send a message to it as well as the other petrol companies that people will make a fuss and will embarrass them if they try that sort of thing.
